30. Expectation
Today, in a nod to the new beginnings of the new year, I discuss the power of expecting what you desire. No goal or dream is impossible if you can live in the expectation of it.

TRANSCRIPT
Hey there. Welcome back to MIND CHALK, where I bring my fleeting thoughts to life and talk about ‘thought’ in a new and hopefully helpful light.
As you know, I took an unannounced holiday hiatus, but now I'm back.
I kind of hope you missed me, because you know, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
No, really. I just wanted and kind of needed a break from work and all my projects, which I got, and it was a wonderful, wonderful holiday.
If you guys remember or know anything about my DAUGHTER-FATHER DANCE Podcast—last Christmas was hell. It was horrible. It sucked. Most of my family had COVID. My mom was in a really bad place.
We can talk more about my mom later. I've got some great news to share about her, but I'll do that on another episode because today, well, firstly, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Festivus or whatever you celebrate at the end of the year.
For some people I know, some of my friends, it was just a celebration to end 2022.
So no matter what it was for you, Happy New Year!
In honor of the new year, I'm going to talk today about ‘expectation.’
So, when my parents told us as kids that we could be anything we want to be, if we set our minds to it—I believed them.
When my grandmother told me that I had the capability to heal my own body without drugs or medical intervention (for the most part, right? We're not Christian Scientists)—I took her seriously.
When my sister once mentioned long ago that she thought I'd be the millionaire in the family—I trusted her premonition.
Expectation is hugely powerful.
Let me say it again.
Expectation—expecting—is hugely powerful.
And the reason it's powerful is that when you walk around in the energy of expectation, that's literally the magic juju that manifests dreams, that manifests the thing that you desire, that manifests that which you're focused on.
So we can make plans, we can make New Year's resolutions, we can make goals. We can say that this is the year that this is gonna happen. But if we state these things, if we make these plans, if we put those things out there, and we don't live in the expectation that that is really what's going to happen, then we fail; our resolutions fall short or are short-lived.
Honestly, I'm not a big proponent of resolutions, New Year's or otherwise, but I do believe in staking your claim, in wanting something, and then living in the feeling of that and expecting it to happen.
Living in the expectation of that which you desire, not in the hardcore way of efforting…
Yeah, that's great if you're gonna run a marathon, you've got to effort. You've gotta get out; you've gotta put your feet on the pavement. You've gotta do those things. There's some ‘efforting’ involved.
But what I'm talking about is living in the expectation of your life being a certain way that you want it to be, that you wanna live in a fulfilled, expanded way. You've gotta live in the expectation that that's how it's gonna be.
A lot of people walk around and think, “How did that person get to be where they are?”
I bet you if you sat them down and if they had the capability of deconstructing how they got somewhere, it's because they lived in the expectation of being there.
They didn't deny the capability of getting there. They didn't look at all the roadblocks or look at the “How am I gonna do this?” and abandon that. They expected.
When we live in the feeling of something—and it's not forced, it's not contrived—it’s magical.
I have a little tile on my wall next to a mirror that says, “I live in the feeling of… (ellipses).
My best friend made this tile for me because we are both discussing the relevance of moving on to the next big thing in our life, the next phase of our careers, and our personal fulfillment. And one of the things we discussed was how powerful living in the feeling of whatever it is we want to manifest is.
Now, some would refer to this, or have referred to it, as ‘Fake it till you make it.’
I've always hated that because it's not really faking anything. It's living in the expectation and allowing the feeling, allowing what that feeling that you're living in, like…
Literally, close your eyes.
We can all imagine or daydream and feel the feeling of, during these winter months, what it would feel like to sit and feel a spring breeze and the sun on your face, and the feeling of the spring breeze and the smell of crisp, fresh air.
We can feel that, right? We can go there.
This isn't any different.
I'm saying live in the feeling of what you want your life to feel like and manifest it to be.
For instance, when we were kids, we expected Christmas morning. And we lived in that feeling our entire Christmas vacation until that morning came.
That wasn't faking anything. It was ‘expecting’ it. So let's shift it, let's say expectation.
I'm living in the feeling right now because, remember, the moment of NOW is all we have.
I'm living in this feeling right now of what I expect. So today, I'm going to say to you, remind you to, live in the feeling of expectation. That's where the magic happens, I promise. It is.
It's not sitting in the corner on your meditation mat and saying your affirmations. Yes, do that. But it's about taking those things that you're stating and living in the feeling of them.
This isn't new information. People have been saying it for decades.
I want to say it today in a way that it lands for you in a new way and in a new way in this new year.
In this new year, up your game.
If you do this—live in the feeling of those things that you want and the expectation that you are going to get them, your life will shift in that direction.
We talk about the power of positive thinking and the power of believing.
Today, I encourage you to begin to expect. Walk in the feeling of expectation of something turning out the way you want it to, not in the steps you're going to take to get there or the efforting you're going to have to go through.
Just live in the expectation. Live in the feeling of what you desire and see what happens.
Okay, Happy New Year (how long do we get to say that)?
Okay, I'll see you tomorrow.
